I first saw Daphne Corboz as a youth player with PDA and even then she stood out with her confident technical ability. Fast forward to this summer with Corboz showcasing her skills with the United States U23 team against the USA U20's. With a depth of talent at CM (Morgan Brian, Sam Mewis, and Sarah Killion), Corboz was shifted to the wing. She preceded to torture the US U20's right back in 1v1 situations while also getting on the score sheet. Corboz reflects on her time with the US National Team program, her upcoming season with Georgetown University, and professional aspirations.

Soccer Banter:  For those that haven't seen you play, how would you describe yourself as a player? Growing up were there players that you looked up to that you tried to pattern your own game after?

Daphne Corboz:  I would describe myself as a technical, creative player that enjoys taking risks and attacking. Growing up close to Rutgers University, I went to many of the women's games and was impressed with and idolized Carli Lloyd. I also tried to emulate my game after Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldinho. Zidane was such an elegant player and dominated and controlled many games. Ronaldinho played with such happiness, creativity, and passion that really inspired me.

SB:  You have had a busy summer with two different camps with the US U23's, explain that experience and how you believe it helps in your own development as a player?  What will you take from playing with the U23's back to Georgetown?

DC:  Playing with the US U23's is always such a pleasure and an honor.  I learn so much from the other girls and coaches, and the high level of play and competition really push me to play at pace, to make quick decisions, and to be a complete player. The intensity and the nature of winning at those camps are things I will try to apply at Georgetown.

SB:  Your sister, Rachel, will be joining you this Fall at the Hilltop - is that a good thing?!

DC:  Absolutely, I am so excited, not only for myself but for the team. Rachel is a great player with so much skill that can really help our team.

SB:
The Hoyas have reached the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament the past two years, what are your own goals for the team heading into this season?

DC:
Obviously, our goal is to improve from last year's season. In addition to the two second round appearances in the NCAA tournament, in the past three years, we have made it to a final and two semifinals of the Big East. I really would like our team to practice good soccer and hopefully reach the Sweet 16 of the NCAA and win a Big East championship.

SB:  Coach Nolan has turned Georgetown into a top 25 program, what do you believe are his greatest strengths as a coach?

DC:  He really has a great soccer culture. I think he does a great job of finding good recruits and he really fosters an environment where we can all learn and develop. His emphasis on the technical and tactical sides of the game make for good, fun practices.

SB:  What are your thoughts on playing professional soccer after college?

DC:  Soccer is my passion so I would love to play professionally after college and it would be a dream come true.

SB:  Do you follow and watch NWSL? Do you have a favorite player?

DC:  Yes! I am a Sky Blue fan and have been going to almost all of their home games since the WPS's inception. I also try to watch games online as much as I can. Practicing with Sky Blue for the past two years, I have been really impressed with Christie Rampone. Her speed, understanding of the game are outstanding and she has had an unbelievable career. Another player I like in the league is Lauren Holiday.
