The Derby Preview From the Eyes of a Red

It’s been a few years that I have been confident heading into the derby. This certainly hasn’t changed. This derby should be a no-mark derby, but United tend to do things the hard way.  Wigan away should have been a victory, Everton last week should have been a victory and that would have had us walking out at the Council House with a guard of honor from our noisy neighbors. That isn’t the case and it gives the laser blues or ciddy as they are affectionately known by the Red side of Manchester the chance to go the bathroom on our parade.

It didn’t seem money could buy you a title a few weeks ago when United were 8 points clear, but Sir Alex Ferguson’s men, our boys have tried to disprove that theory. Don’t get me wrong ciddy have a quality bunch of personnel and if they do end up winning the title it will be down to their early season form. We haven’t been that great this year and still have a chance to win our 20th title. Yes, ciddy have David Silva, who was a phenomenon when he entered the EPL, but did Mancini not rest him enough, which caused him to be anonymous up until last week?  Tevez is a money grabbing, dummy spitting, arrogant Argie, but old scarface is a mercurial talent and that cannot be denied. I do have a lot of hate for the 2ft Argie.  They also have Maradona’s son-in-law, who is a touch of class and also have a goalkeeper who I would love to see playing for United, but sure that won’t happen.  That being said ciddy has the edge over us with the 6-1 win at Old Trafford and in the end that goal difference and defeat could count against us in the end.

I was not a huge believer in bringing Scholesy back, but I admit it and how wrong I was. But you can’t bring him back forever! Can you? DeGea has been immense recently and has justified his price tag, Jonny Evans is okay and Fergie must have been giving him a huge boost of confidence, but I have seen better players playing for my GU16 team (maybe that’s a bit far-fetched, but I don’t think he is good enough to wear the jersey). Wazza has been quietly scoring goals and Michael Carrick has been the player of the season for me in red. Yes, I have got on the man’s back a lot in recent years, but he deserves a lot of respect for his work this season.

My prediction for this Monday night’s game is that United will get a result.  Remember, ciddy are under pressure to win it. They have to win in order to go ahead of us on goal difference. United would be happy with a result, but nothing would be better than seeing Scholesy pop up in injury time to head the winner like he did two years ago.  That repeat I would pay for. It’s certainly not going to be 6-1 (but that would be great provided the away team scored the six).  They have built this up as a title decider, but ciddy have to travel to Newcastle next week, who are battling for a Champions League place.

Prediciton – a Mancunian to have the say in the title race on Monday night!
