Monz: You have played for the Vancouver Whitecaps (W-League) for five years from 2005-2010, magicJack (WPS) in 2011, and Kristianstands DFF (Sweden) last year for a short time. What has been the biggest difference between all of the leagues?
Soph: It is difficult to say exactly the difference difference because I was so young when I played with the Whitecaps. But overall it would be the speed and quality of play. Personally Sweden and the WPS were very similar. The quality of players in the league made for a high standard of soccer to be played every week.
Monz: What are you looking forward to the most for this season with Sky Blue FC?
Soph: The opportunity to grow my game and become a better player. Our team has quality players which makes the practice environment competitive and enjoyable. With some of the players in the league, every weekend is a chance to match up against some of the best players in the world. I believe the quality of soccer will be high and entertaining.
Soph: On the field, probably the loss against the USA in the quarterfinal. It is a strange game to choose because we lost, but the game was epic. Playing on the Field of Dreams, with teammates and friends I love, against the best team in the world, in the Olympics...it does not get much bigger than that! It is the type of game you dream to play in as a kid. From that one game, Canada became inspired and really embraced our women's team, it was incredible.
Off the field, winning a medal at the Olympics. Our goal was to see our flag raised and we did it!I It is a privilege and an honor to stand up there representing your country for the game you love and I would not want to have done it with anyone else than the people standing there with me. We are a really close team and have gone through so much together, so to stand there together was truly a blessing!!!
Monz: You are known for your bleached blonde, spiky hair from the 2011 Olympics. What else should fans know about you? (PS we want that hairstyle back)
Soph: I am always having an inner battle about what to do next with my hair. I am a really easy going person who loves life, still learning the guitar (5 years), am curious about the world, learning Italian (already know German), love the idea of reading but struggle to do it, I have never been to New York City...So I look forward to exploring!
