I've adjusted my preseason approach the last two seasons by focusing on attacking soccer to begin with and then teach defending, team shape, etc. later on in the process. I believe this has helped us in a few ways, but the end product yesterday was pretty good. We had several scoring chances and controlled the ball effectively for the majority of the game. We won 4-0, but the opposition wasn't a fair test of what we'll be facing. Nonetheless, it's a positive start for players and coaches.
The five big things that I take away from preseason at this point:
1. We have no injuries.
2. We have a lot of work to do.
3. I missed Manchester United's opener and Monday's match against Chelsea. (This could be #1)
4. The first parent email I receive is from one that isn't even on our team anymore.
5. I have Facebooked more this week than in my entire online existence. (Can I sustain my updates on social media? Only time will tell.)
