So it’s not long ago that the English Premier League ended, with ciddy grabbing a late winner to wrestle the trophy from its rightful owners. Since there wasn’t much soccer going on during the summer to get me excited, I spent it like I have every summer since I was a young boy. I have been scouring every piece of print or internet page to try and see if we, Manchester United, had bought anyone. The Wizard seemed to get his transfer business done early with the arrival of Shinji Kagawa and Nick Powell; it seemed that this was the start of the transfer madness in the summer. Added to those two players Manchester United has yet to unveil………. No One! Fills you full of hope, doesn’t it?
Let’s start with the ones that got away – Lucas Moura may have been a great addition to United but to pay that amount of money for a 19 year-old unproven from Brazil, you got to think to yourself – WTF? Anyways, Brazilians don’t really make a success of themselves in England – Name me one Brazilian that has really stood out, wowed the crowds and collected the medals? I bet you can’t! Plus we have Antonio Valencia, Nani, surely a child of one of the Jackson 5, and Swan Lake’s very own Ashley Young. Luka Modric – didn’t want you anyway… Next? Eden Hazard, probably a player I would’ve loved to have seen wear the red jersey, but he chose Chelsea, why? Maybe because that fat little so and so from Tampa couldn’t compete with the funds at The Bridge. Hazard went for footballing reasons, right? Wrong!!!!!!
Right let’s get back to the nitty gritty of the mighty Manchester United. Can they win the title back? I think we can, I think we have recently purchased a player that can help us do that. Kagawa, is going to need help, but from every football fans new scouting report of YouTube, the boy seems a great purchase. He showed flashes on tour, but I think he is a player that will be able to unlock defenses. Mock my words: this lad could be a contender for PFA Player of the Year. Nick Powell looks like one for the future, but what about the last goal he scored for Crewe Alexandra – get yourself on YouTube and check it out…. Mint!

Defensively, we look good with Rio and Nemanja. Yes I said Vida, the big man is back and he will be chomping at the bit to get back into it and as he says “it’s like war!” We have to keep these lads fit because Smalling, Jones and probably one of the best defenders in Europe, Johnny Evans, will no doubt be crocked for a number of weeks this year. De Gea has a year under his belt and with Lindegaard pushing him for the No. 1 Jersey, it can only be good for us Reds. Midfield is where we need to strengthen majorly. Modric, Hazard, Dembele, and M’Villa have all been mentioned, but it seems like we may have missed out again. In attack, we have some very good strikers, Wazza the old head will again bang in 20+ goals, and Chicharito will welcome the signing of Kagawa, as this will increase his yield. He just has to be there. Danny Welbeck, England’s No.9 will be a huge spark up there. That’s three. We all know Berba will be gone before we know it, so it leaves one main strikers spot vacant. RVP anyone? If rumors and sightings are to be believed that RVP is very close to becoming a Red and with a young Chilean striker Angelo Henriquez (another YouTube sensation) having just completed his medical, then our department there seems to be all set for a few years yet.
Manchester United, lacking a real midfield general will find it tough this year, but expecting a big year from some of our lads such as Cleverly and Anderson. The latter needs to step it up or ship it out. The former is a quality player and maybe there is a little too much pressure on the kid’s shoulders. One huge bonus is the impending return of one, Darren Fletcher, who made a comeback yesterday at Pittodrie in Aberdeen. Fletch is a quality player. His heart and soul is Manchester United and although not a player that will get the same adulation as Wayne Rooney, he battles like a champion and it will be a great bonus to get this kid back again. I am looking forward to this season and have been waiting since the end of May to get it back on again. In the words of the famous terrace song. “I see the Streford End arising. I see there’s trouble on the way”
Predictions:
Champions: Manchester United
Champs League Qualifiers: (in this order) – Ciddy, Chelsea, Spurs
Europa: Arsenal, Everton
FA Cup: Aston Villa
League Cup: Ciddy
Relegated: Southampton, West Ham & Swansea
