The 'YouTube Clip of the Week' featuring Lassi Hurskainen has created a lot of buzz on the site so we decided to do a midweek 'Five for Friday' with Lassi and find out a bit more about him and his tricks. He is originally from Finland but was recruited to UNC Asheville and is currently the starting goalkeeper for the Bulldogs.
Below is his first Youtube clip and his most recent one can be found at Soccer Banter 'YouTube Clip of the Week'.
Soccer Banter: How and when did you come up with the idea to do the Youtube clips?
Lassi Hurskainen: One day after class, a week after John McEntee, UCONN football quarterback, posted his trick shot video, a friend, Kenny Paradiso, called me and said : "you could definitely do something similar with your feet." So we sat down and started writing ideas down and that is how the first trick shot video was created. The idea for second one came when people were not only asking for a new one, but also suggesting tricks for me to perform.
SB: How many takes/attempts do some of these tricks take?
LH: The amount of takes for each trick shot really varied - some tricks that may look hard didn't always take that long but definitely the double crossbar was quite a challenge. On the first video, the ball that hits another ball and goes into the net, was only my third attempt. Overall some tricks took longer and vice versa.
SB: What do you use to film the action, who does the editing and how long does it take?
LH: For the first video I only used one camera but the feedback suggested that some tricks were "fake" or edited afterwards so for the new video I decided to use two angles for some of the tricks. Some cameras were stationary and other times someone was holding it.
I am a film and visual major so I did editing for both of the videos and obviously the word "editing" maybe misleading for some people so I put the clips together and added music.
SB: What's your greatest memory so far in your soccer career?
LH: My best team memory was fiver years ago when I got my first chance to play in Men's 1st division in Finland for Jippo and we beat a Finnish premier league team in the Finnish Cup. My best individual memory is from last summer when my long distribution on a kick ended up in the back of the net.
SB: You have one more year left at UNC Asheville, what are your plans after graduation?
LH: Yes I have one more semester to go but after that the doors are completely open - I Really don't have any plans yet to be honest but will hopefully have the opportunity to keep playing.
