So…as I began to figure out what’s next, I relish the memories of the last four years. The friendships…the experiences were more than what I could have ever anticipated… Two quotes resonate as our season comes to a close; the first one motivated me through my highs and lows, the second from Mike just days ago.
“Dave mentioned how each of us defines success and how it should always be measured against oneself. I am driven by the belief that tomorrow I'll be a better person than I am today. That's how I measure it. Your greatest success as a Hoya lies in the unmistakable truth that you transformed our program from mediocrity to greatness. While other classes broke new ground, it was the six of you that transcended Georgetown Women's Soccer and solidified our place as one of the best in the nation. This transcendence only happens once in every program's history and you, and you alone, hold that accomplishment. An achievement that will never be met again.”
Knowing that we made such a huge impact on the program leaves me with no regrets. I’ve invested so much into this team and this program…it feels so good to know that we left our mark and will be remembered. I can’t ask for much more.
For the past 13 years of my life nothing could have come between the game and me. Now that my collegiate career is over, I think about how this game has molded me into the determined, hard worker that I am. It’s given me the opportunity to attend an excellent school, and most importantly through this journey I have been blessed with many amazing friendships for life. It began when I was 8, playing soccer on the Lazers with my two best friends, Kaitlyn Mawicke and Andrea Young. I’m thankful for the remarkable friendships as a result of the last four years, the lessons I’ve learned on and off the field, and the game that’s given me so much. Dave once said, “I never would have thought Gabby and you would have decided to be roommates freshman year…imagine that! Well, it’s about friendship, it’s about competition and it’s about being a team and pulling together against all odds…throughout the last four years we did just that!
If I can leave you with one last thing, “ask yourself how would you play today, if you knew there was no tomorrow?”
Live in the moment, enjoy the ride and hey, you never know!
WE ARE GEORGETOWN!
