Monz: You have played every season in the WPS; in 2009 with St. Louis Athletica, in 2010 with Chicago Red Stars, and in 2011 with magicJack. You first went in to a U.S. National Team camp in 2010 (without previously have been called into a youth national team camp). How do you think playing in the WPS has helped your national team career?
Jill: Well I got discovered in the league, so the league has been vital to my success with the national team. Not only did the league give me an opportunity to play in front of the USWNT coaches, but it gave me opportunities to gain playing experience at a higher level, which for a goalkeeper is invaluable. Without WPS I am not sure I would gotten my break. It is so important that we have a sustainable league for players to so that after college players can still continue to develop, only strengthening our league and our national team.
Jill: My philosophy as a player is to face everyday with the idea that I will be a better player than I was yesterday. Although my hand may be out of commission for a short time, my foot skills and fitness can always improve. It is upsetting that I will miss the beginning of the season with my team, but everyday is an opportunity to grow and become a better player. I try and just focus on what I can control. If I can successfully learn more about the game and work on my deficient areas I know that when I return to the field I will be ready to go.
Monz: You are a New Jersey native and you have played for Jersey Sky Blue of the USL W-League before the club became professional. If you were to have a fan section, what would it be called? (Hint, hint to all of Sky Blue fans!)
Jill: Hmm... maybe “The Loyden Lunatics”??
