Soccer Banter: Why did Newcastle hire Joe Kinnear? What do you make of the summer's transfer activity in Newcastle?
Steve Coxon: As a life long Newcastle fan you get used to crazy hirings and even crazier firings. Was it to take the pressure off Pardew or to put more pressure on him? His one contribution in the transfer market was Luc Remy on loan. Newcastle did spend a decent amount in the January transfer window and it seems to be the new norm for the club - sit quiet in the summer and wait till January to make a splash.
SB: Will Alan Pardew last the season? What position do you see Newcastle occupying in the final league table?
SC: 30 managers in 38 years and not one trophy to show for it! Isn't the definition of insanity dong the same thing over and over and expecting different results? I for one was glad they gave Pardew a lifeline after last season. We desperately need stability at this club. Europe took its toll on us last year and selling Demba Ba at a critical time made Pardew's job almost impossible. A top 8 finish this season should keep him there for a third year. If we avoid too many injuries and a sale of Ben Arfa we are good enough to finish in the top 8.
