19. Yes that was my favorite number this past year. 19. From the beginning of 2011, every Manchester United fan yearned for one thing...The number 19. It was the number that duly knocked a certain team also known as the “bin dippers” well and truly off their perch. On a cold spring morning in Lancashire, Wayne Rooney scored with a penalty to secure Manchester United’s 19 league title. Sir Alex Ferguson was true to his word in 1986 when he said, “I want to knock Liverpool off their f*&%ing perch.” This was an epic day in the life of a Manchester United fan growing up in the 1980’s when friends who supported Liverpool were celebrating year after year with league titles. This was the big one, never mind the 26 year wait, but this was The One!!!!
Fine ‘Em Two Weeks Wages was born in the late spring and helped me vent my frustration on the world of football including the likes of Carlos Tevez, Mario Balotelli, Phillip Lahm, Rafa Marquez, Luke Rodgers, Francois Blaquart, FC Sion and Real Madrid. Acts of craziness or shouting their mouth off when it was better to let things go, was the order of the day for the all the aforementioned suitors. This pales into insignificance when the story broke of Billy Sharp of Doncaster Rovers, who lost his son two days after he was born. The grief stricken Sharp scored the goal of his life the next night, and revealed a t-shirt that paid homage to his son.
Thank goodness 2011 is over. Roll on 2012 when I am sure the like of Suarez, Tevez and Balotelli will all feature in FETWW.
