Best Moment of 2011 with Jeff Carlisle

For me, the most memorable moment of the year was Abby Wambach's goal against Brazil in the quarterfinals of the Women's World Cup. I was getting ready to write this team's obituary, and to see the US get off life support and prevail on penalties was just a fantastic moment. It really showed the never-say-die attitude of the US team, as well as an incredible amount of skill by Wambach and Megan Rapinoe (who delivered the cross). I also think the moment really enabled fans to feel more invested in the team and how they did. Up to that point I think the interest was strong but not consuming for the soccer public. That all changed with Wambach's goal.
