Today the US Men's National team hosts World Cup Champions Spain in a friendly match at Gillette Stadium. The last time these two teams met was in 2009 when the United States upset Spain 2-0 in the Confederations Cup Final. Spain had entered that match with a 35 game unbeaten streak and following the loss in South Africa, Spain returned to lift the World Cup trophy last summer.
The US team is in the middle of preparations for the Gold Cup with it's first game on Tuesday against Canada. The timing of this game in many ways doesn't make sense but it is a great chance for the fans of America to see the US team against the best team in the world. With 61,000 tickets sold, this match will set a record for most fans attending a US Soccer event in New England.
- Look for Bob Bradley to use all six subs on field players today as the focus is clearly on the game against Canada.
- Grass has been laid down above the artificial field turf at Gillette but judging by the training sessions yesterday, the ball will not bounce as normally as it would on a true grass field.
- US is still winless in 2011 with draws against Argentina and Chile while losing 1-0 to Paraguay.
- Alejando Bedoya who played at Boston College is a late addition to the US Camp after midfielder Benny Feilhaber was injured playing for the New England Revolution
- New York Red Bulls teammates Juan Agudelo and Tim Ream will both most likely play a part against Spain and ultimately increase their value for a possible transfer across the pond.
Final Prediction: Spain wins 2-0
