With the USA-Spain game tomorrow, I thought it was a good time to interview a good friend of mine, Tim Stebbins, who founded Soccer Supporters in 2006.  In 'Five for Friday, Tim discusses the formation of Soccer Supporters, scarves and his love for New York Red Bulls.  Don't be fooled by some of his terms, he was born and raised in Connecticut!

Soccer Banter:  What is Soccer Supporters?

Tim Stebbins:  Soccer Supporters is a truly born Global company offering custom supporter scarves to soccer teams, clubs, high schools, bands, and corporations around the globe.

We are a grass roots soccer concept that was born on the pitches of Southeast London, developed back home at Northeastern University during our senior season…circled the globe to Australia while I was in Grad School, this concept was finally put to paper and the Business Plan was complete.

Then the idea crossed the globe again when I graduated and moved back to D.C. and that is when this dream of nearly five years finally became reality. But, it wasn’t until I moved to Dublin that this company really started to mature and take off and my vision of bringing custom scarves to the US market was realized. 5 cities, 4 counties and 3 continents later Soccer Supporters is bringing a bit of the old world to the new and kitting out the necks of soccer supporters around the globe.

SB:  Why Scarves?

TS:  What else would a proper soccer supporter want to wrap around their necks? Soccer and scarves are like peanut butter and jelly, you can’t have one without the other.

SB:  What soccer teams or supporters clubs have you worked with in the past?

TS:  Chicago Fire and Red Stars and their supporters club Section 8 Chicago; Portland Timbers and Timbers Army; DC United and Screaming Eagles; multiple USL teams to name a few.

We also do Tour scarves for Flogging Molly and Guster, so we are not just limited to Soccer, but soccer will always be our main focus and objective.

SB:  Best soccer game you have seen live?

TS:  Easy choice, the USA qualifying match for WC2010 at Soldier Field against Honduras.  My mate Andy and I were sitting in the upper section in a sea of blue and white, Honduras took the lead after just a couple minutes, and the two lone Yanks in the section were getting absolutely hammered by the visiting fans. It was so lopsided that you would have thought you were away at Honduras.  After getting a hotdog square in the face we decided to find safety and shelter behind Tim Howard’snet with Sam’s Army. Bocanegra then scored that late second half winner and it was the most ridiculous celebration I have ever experienced. It was pure euphoria for the next 20 minutes. Greatest 30 minutes of viewing ever, and the party continued into the concessions where we sang, cheered, and chanted till the Soldier Field security had to usher us out. Brilliant!

SB:  Who will win the following; Women's World Cup, Gold Cup, MLS Cup?

TS:  USWNT obviously, USMNT obviously, and Henry, Agudelo and company…obviously.
